The Dord of Darien

Musings from the Mayor of the Internet

Baseball players say the darndest things, part 2

Here’s Milwaukee reliever LaTroy Hawkins after blowing a three-run lead in the eighth (Go Cubs!):

"It is a concern of ours, giving up runs," Hawkins said. "But it’s part of the game. Instead of giving up crooked numbers, we just got to give up that straight number. One run instead of two or three runs at a time."

While it’s good to hear that giving up runs is a "concern" of yours, LaTroy, I’m not confident that, as your manager, I would be too fond of your plan to go out there and just give up one run. Maybe try giving up a round number instead!

And I don’t mean 8. Unless you’re playing the Cubs, in which case yes I do.
