Musings from the Mayor of the Internet

The Cubs’ middle infield defense is so painful to watch. Has any team ever allowed so many groundball hits up the middle? This is ridiculous. Ryan Theriot and Mike Fontenot have no goddamn range at all. They get to nothing. It is my considered opinion that the Cubs’ pitching would look a lot better if the middle infield could field any balls. Or, for that matter, if they could throw anybody out when they finally do; Ryan Theriot can barely get the ball from short to first without a relay man, for fuck’s sake, and Mike Fontenot has difficulty getting the ball to first from the gap right of second.

Fun fact: new Cubs reliever Carlos Zambrano has a 7.45 ERA on the season. Carlos Zambrano is a sinkerballer. He gets a lot of groundballs. Care to guess what his FIP is? Here’s a hint: it’s almost three runs better.

Edit: Mike Fontenot just fucked up the most routine possible play — a bouncer hit right at him. He missed it by like fifteen feet. Two runs scored and the Cubs didn’t get an out.
